TheQuornFlyer – The Person Behind the Lens
From a Passionate Hobby to a Dream Career
Every photograph tells a story, and for me, that story is only just beginning.
I'm a 30-year-old security guard living in the village of Quorn, Leicestershire, with a growing passion for photography, railway heritage, and capturing those special moments that deserve to be remembered.
My photography journey began in 2025, when I decided to turn a personal interest into something more creative. Being surrounded by the history, atmosphere, and incredible locomotives of the Great Central Railway, I found myself drawn to capturing the sights, sounds, and character of Britain's railway heritage through the lens of a camera.
That passion led to the creation of TheQuornFlyer, a collection of social media pages originally started as a simple hobby, somewhere to share my photographs, videos, and experiences with fellow railway enthusiasts.
What began as a bit of fun in my spare time has gradually grown into something far bigger than I ever imagined.
A Proud Milestone
One of my proudest achievements so far came during the Great Central Railway's October Steam Gala in 2026, when some of my photography was selected and published on the railway's official social media pages to help promote its events and locomotives.
Seeing my own photographs being used to showcase a railway I have such a passion for was an incredible feeling and a real milestone in my photography journey.
It was more than just having a photograph shared. It was a moment of recognition, knowing that something I had created was helping to promote and celebrate the railway, its volunteers, its magnificent locomotives, and the hard work that goes into keeping our railway heritage alive.
That experience gave me an even greater determination to keep improving, learning, and pushing my photography further.
More Than Just a Hobby
Although I currently work full-time as a security guard, photography has become much more than something I do on my days off.
It's a creative escape, a challenge, and something I genuinely look forward to. Whether it's capturing a steam locomotive powering through the countryside, the character of a diesel engine, or those quieter behind-the-scenes moments that often go unnoticed, I enjoy finding a story in every image.
Through TheQuornFlyer, I'm continuing to develop my own photographic style, build my confidence, connect with like-minded people, and share my passion with an ever-growing audience.
And while railway photography is where my journey began, my ambition is to expand beyond the railway environment, exploring new subjects, opportunities, and different areas of photography.
Turning a Dream into Reality
My ultimate ambition is to turn TheQuornFlyer into a successful photography business and eventually make photography my full-time career.
I know that building a career in photography doesn't happen overnight. It takes dedication, patience, hard work, and a willingness to keep learning. But if this journey has taught me anything, it's that something which starts as a small hobby can grow into an opportunity you never expected.
Over the coming years, I hope to expand TheQuornFlyer, develop my portfolio, work with more organisations and businesses, photograph a wider variety of events, and establish myself as a professional photographer.
The dream is simple: to one day swap my security uniform for my camera full-time, doing something I truly love and building a future around my creativity.
The Journey Is Just Beginning
From picking up a camera in 2025 to seeing my work featured by the Great Central Railway in 2026, it's already been an exciting journey, and I'm incredibly proud of how far TheQuornFlyer has come in such a short space of time.
There is still so much to learn, so many places to visit, so many people to meet, and countless moments waiting to be captured.
To everyone who has followed TheQuornFlyer, liked a photograph, watched a video, shared a post, or supported my work along the way, thank you. Every bit of support means more than you probably realise.
TheQuornFlyer started as a hobby, grew into a passion, and is now becoming a dream worth chasing.
Because sometimes, the greatest journeys begin with a single photograph.
